VSMC Opens Singapore 300mm Fab, Targeting 44,000 Monthly Wafers
The joint venture between Vanguard International Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors will create 1,600 jobs by 2029, with volume production starting in Q1 2027.

New Singapore Fab Opens
VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC), a joint venture formed in September 2024 by Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and NXP Semiconductors, has officially opened its first 12-inch (300mm) fabrication plant in Tampines, Singapore.
The facility has now entered its risk production phase, following a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2024 and 22 months of construction. Volume production is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2027, according to VSMC.
Production Capacity and Job Creation
By 2029, the new fab is expected to reach full capacity, producing approximately 44,000 12-inch wafers per month. This expansion also forecasts the creation of around 1,600 jobs within Singapore's high-tech sector by the same year.
The plant will support process technologies ranging from 130 nanometres (nm) to 40nm, catering to mixed-signal, power management, analog, and interposer applications for markets including high-performance computing (HPC), automotive, and mobile devices.
Strategic Goals and Sustainable Operations
For VIS, the facility represents a commitment to deepening its presence in Singapore and expanding its global operational footprint. NXP views the fab as a way to reinforce its manufacturing base, ensuring long-term customer demand and enhancing supply chain resilience.
VSMC also stated its commitment to sustainability, designing the fab to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Singapore Green Mark standards, and integrating renewable energy solutions. The company is actively collaborating with local universities to cultivate semiconductor talent.
Boosting Singapore's Semiconductor Ecosystem
The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) highlighted the fab's role in strengthening the nation's semiconductor ecosystem. This new capacity and advanced manufacturing capability reflects continued global confidence in Singapore as a key hub for the industry.
The EDB noted that VSMC's collaborations with institutes of higher learning will equip the local workforce, further supporting long-term economic growth for the region's high-tech industries.
