Singapore's OCBC Ranks Third Globally, Tops Asia-Pacific for Bank Strength
OCBC Bank achieved the third-strongest global ranking and first in Asia-Pacific in The Asian Banker's 2026 assessment, marking a first for a Singaporean lender in the global top three.

Global and Regional Standing
OCBC Bank secured the third position worldwide and was named the strongest in the Asia-Pacific region and Singapore in The Asian Banker's 2026 global bank ranking. This marks the first time a Singaporean bank has reached the top three globally since the ranking's inception in 2023. JPMorgan Chase led the list, followed by Saudi National Bank in second place.
Among its local peers, DBS Bank placed 23rd, while UOB was 187th, highlighting OCBC's significant lead within the city-state's banking sector.
Financial Performance Indicators
The Singapore-headquartered bank demonstrated strong financial performance throughout 2026. Its share price has climbed by 46.6% this year, making it the top performer on the Straits Times Index. OCBC also reported a record net profit of S$2.22 billion for the second quarter, announced on 7 August.
This figure represented a 22% increase year-on-year and surpassed the S$1.91 billion consensus forecast from a Bloomberg survey of analysts.
Key Drivers of Strength
The Asian Banker attributed OCBC's robust position to several factors. Christian Kapfer, research director of TABInsights, highlighted the bank's diversified earnings streams, sound asset quality, and strong capital reserves.
Kapfer noted that OCBC's ability to balance profitability with prudent balance sheet management was a crucial element in its financial strength, distinguishing it from many regional competitors.
OCBC's ascent to a top-tier global ranking solidifies its competitive advantage within Asia's financial landscape. This recognition reflects well on Singapore's banking sector, potentially enhancing its appeal for international capital flows and partnerships seeking stable and well-managed financial institutions.
The bank's strong capital position and diversified earnings structure may also enable it to pursue strategic regional expansion or acquisitions, particularly in Southeast Asian markets, as it leverages its strong balance sheet.
