Singapore's OCBC: World's 3rd Strongest, Asia-Pacific's Top Bank
The Asian Banker's latest assessment places OCBC as the strongest lender in the Asia-Pacific region and third worldwide, marking a first for a Singaporean bank.

OCBC's Global and Regional Standing
Singapore's OCBC Bank has been recognised as the strongest financial institution in the Asia-Pacific region for 2026, according to a new ranking from financial business intelligence provider The Asian Banker (TAB).
The bank also secured third place globally in TAB's World's 1,000 Strongest Banks list, a first for a Singapore-based lender to enter the top three since the ranking's inception in 2023. This year's top spot went to JPMorgan Chase of the United States, with Saudi National Bank from Saudi Arabia placing second.
Peer Performance and OCBC's Ascent
Other Singaporean banks also featured in the assessment, with DBS Bank taking 23rd position and United Overseas Bank (UOB) ranked 187th. OCBC significantly improved its regional standing, surpassing seven Asia-Pacific banks that had outranked it in 2025, including DBS, China Merchants Bank, and Japan's SMFG.
OCBC's historical performance in TAB's ranking shows a steady rise from 36th place in 2023, to 10th in 2024, and 11th in 2025.
Methodology and Executive Commentary
The Asian Banker's evaluation involved 1,000 of the world's largest banks, assessed across seven criteria: sovereign risk, scale, balance sheet growth, risk profile, profitability, asset quality, and liquidity. OCBC's group chief executive officer, Tan Teck Long, commented on the recognition, stating it reflects the institution's capability.
Christian Kapfer, research director of TABInsights, highlighted OCBC's "diversified earnings, sound asset quality and strong capital position" as key differentiators among its regional peers.
Broader Recognition and Market Impact
This latest accolade follows another significant recognition last month, when OCBC secured first place in the inaugural World's Top Performing Banks ranking by Forbes and Statista, with DBS in second.
Investors have responded positively to OCBC's performance and strategic positioning; the bank's share price on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) has risen approximately 72 per cent since October 2025. This sustained market confidence in OCBC's financial strength may influence investor interest in other well-capitalised regional banks.
