New Premium Card for Thai Market

Krungsriayudhya Card and JCB International will debut the Krungsri JCB Ultimate Credit Card in Thailand on 1 November. This premium offering targets the “JNERATION” segment, defined as consumers with a strong interest in Japanese culture, fashion, dining, and travel.

The launch deepens an existing collaboration between the two entities, which already includes the Krungsri JCB Platinum card. Krungsriayudhya Card operates as the credit card division of Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri), itself part of Japan’s MUFG Group.

Enhanced Rewards for Japan-Related Spending

Cardholders will earn five times Krungsri Points on purchases made at designated Japanese fashion retailers in Thailand. This enhanced reward rate also applies to dining at Japanese restaurants globally and to transactions conducted in Japanese yen while in Japan. For general spending, members accrue one point for every THB 25 spent.

Points can also be converted into Japan Airlines (JAL) Mileage Bank miles, with two Krungsri Points equating to one JAL mile.

Travel and Lifestyle Benefits

The card includes travel insurance coverage of up to THB 20 million for both domestic and international trips. Additionally, cardholders gain access to airport lounges across Asia, Europe, and Hawaii through the JCB Airport Lounge Service. Thai users can also receive up to 5% cashback on fuel purchases at Bangchak service stations across the country. JCB states its global acceptance network spans approximately 72 million merchants in 160 countries.

Market Context and Strategic Play

This introduction follows Krungthai Card’s (KTC) launch of Thailand’s first JCB Ultimate card in 2022, which targeted consumers earning at least THB 50,000 monthly. Masaki Yokawa, President and CEO of JCB International, stated that Thailand is a key market for JCB in Southeast Asia, noting growing Thai consumer interest in Japan.

For Krungsri, this card expands its premium product line, aiming to capture a specific niche of high-spending consumers. The increased competition in premium co-branded cards could drive further innovation in rewards for travel and lifestyle segments in Thailand.
