Tollyjoy Ceases Operations

Tollyjoy, a Singapore-based brand specialising in baby and mother-care products, is winding down its operations after 55 years in business. The company confirmed its closure through a social media post on 15 September. Tollyjoy stated that its remaining inventory would be available at "special farewell prices" via its retail partners until stocks are depleted. No specific reasons for the brand's cessation of activities were publicly disclosed.

A Family Business History

Founded in 1971, Tollyjoy began as a family-owned enterprise. Tan Wee Keng, the second-generation chief executive, assumed leadership in the early 2000s, according to a 2018 interview with Singapore Management University. Tan was instrumental in stabilising the business during a period of sales challenges and subsequently expanded its market reach across Asia.

He had previously indicated an openness to various options for the brand's continuation, including a public listing or external investment.

Market Shift in Baby Products

The departure of a long-established brand like Tollyjoy will reshape the Singaporean baby and mother-care market. Retailers who previously carried Tollyjoy products will now need to identify alternative brands to fill this segment.

This shift creates an immediate need for these retailers to revise their product assortments, potentially benefiting other regional or international manufacturers of baby products seeking to expand their market share.
