Major Investment in AI Materials Research

Singapore's government is allocating S$150 million to Marvel-AI, a new platform for advanced materials discovery. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced the investment on 27 October 2026 at the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology.

Led by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star), Marvel-AI will focus on four material categories: metal alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites. These materials have applications in critical sectors such as semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and energy.

The platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics to accelerate research, enabling the production of 75 polymer samples in 24 hours or the screening of 470 metal alloys daily.

Supporting AI Integration for Large Enterprises

Beyond materials research, Singapore is also boosting AI adoption across its corporate landscape through the “Champions of AI” programme. This initiative will assist 24 Singapore-based companies in making AI a central part of their operations.

Major firms participating include OCBC, UOB, Singtel, Seatrium, Sembcorp Industries, Keppel, CapitaLand Investment, Singapore Airlines, and ST Engineering. Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) will provide support, helping these companies develop AI transformation roadmaps and access specialised expertise.

UOB aims to generate S$900 million in economic value from AI initiatives by 2030, prioritising productivity gains over cost reductions.

AI Initiatives for SMEs and Manufacturers

The government's AI strategy extends to smaller businesses and the manufacturing sector. EnterpriseSG is launching “Driving Entrepreneurship with AI” workshops, designed to guide micro-entrepreneurs and small business owners in identifying AI use cases and building prototypes. A pilot phase of these workshops engaged over 280 small businesses.

Additionally, the “Catalytic AI Solutions” initiative will further support AI adoption. EnterpriseSG has also committed over S$45 million to assist manufacturers in integrating AI solutions, aiming to enhance industrial capabilities and foster new growth areas for Singapore.

Why it matters

This comprehensive AI investment and adoption strategy aims to deepen Singapore's industrial capabilities and create new growth sources. The Marvel-AI platform, with industry partners like Foxconn Industrial Internet and ST Engineering, is expected to bridge the gap between materials discovery and real-world deployment, reducing development timelines for critical components.

For companies, the “Champions of AI” programme provides direct support for workforce development and supply chain integration, potentially setting new industry benchmarks as noted by Seatrium CEO Chris Ong. This concerted effort positions Singapore to strengthen its role in advanced materials innovation and AI-driven productivity across its economy.
