Pham Nhat Vuong invests $436 million in VinFast Auto subsidiary
Southeast Asia's wealthiest individual, Pham Nhat Vuong, has increased his total investment in the electric vehicle maker to approximately VND51.5 trillion. The capital was deployed via dividend preference shares.

Latest Capital Infusion
Pham Nhat Vuong, recognised as Southeast Asia's richest person, has channelled VND11 trillion (US$436 million) into electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast Auto. This latest funding, made on Thursday, involved purchasing shares in VinFast Vietnam, a subsidiary of the EV company.
Filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) show this contribution brings Vuong's total investment in VinFast and its related entities to approximately VND51.5 trillion. He had previously committed VND40.5 trillion as of 30 June.
Share Structure and Subsidiary Role
The investment was structured through dividend preference shares in VinFast Vietnam. These shares grant holders priority for dividend payouts over ordinary shareholders, though they do not include conversion or exchange rights. VinFast Vietnam, established in June this year with VND35 trillion in charter capital, was part of a significant restructuring.
This move separated VinFast's manufacturing and debt operations into a new entity, VinFast Trading and Production, allowing VinFast Vietnam to concentrate on research and development, vehicle sales, and after-sales services.
Strategic Asset Acquisition
The additional capital from Vuong has already been deployed for strategic acquisitions. According to an update from Vietcap Securities, following a recent meeting with VinFast investors, VinFast Vietnam used the funds to acquire Ngoc Hoi Real Estate Investment.
This company is the developer behind the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area Project, also known as Vinhomes Olympic Ngoc Hoi. This extensive urban development in southern Hanoi covers nearly 9,200 hectares and is projected to require an investment of VND925 trillion, encompassing training facilities, residential, and commercial properties.
This substantial capital injection from Pham Nhat Vuong reinforces VinFast's financial position and its strategic pivot towards real estate development alongside EV production. The acquisition of Ngoc Hoi Real Estate Investment suggests a broader vision for the company, potentially integrating urban development with its automotive ecosystem or diversifying its asset base.
For investors, this signals continued commitment from its founder, while also highlighting the company's evolving corporate structure and its pursuit of large-scale projects beyond its core EV manufacturing.
