HCMC Secures Major Investment Commitments

Ho Chi Minh City announced new investment approvals for 12 projects, securing approximately US$16.4 billion in registered capital. The city revealed these commitments at the 2026 Autumn Economic Forum on October 28. These projects primarily focus on urban development, seaport expansion, logistics infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The announcement took place during a high-level session attended by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and other senior officials, highlighting the strategic importance of these investments for the city's economic future.

Key Projects Drive Investment Total

The International University Urban Area represents the largest single investment, with a revised capital of about US$6.61 billion. This is followed by the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, valued at US$4.92 billion, and the Lotte Eco Smart City Thu Thiem project, at US$2.29 billion.

Together, these three substantial developments account for nearly 84% of the total investment announced. Several of these major projects, including the International University Urban Area and Lotte's Thu Thiem complex, have already commenced construction or held groundbreaking ceremonies.

Expanding Port and Urban Capacity

Investments in seaport and logistics infrastructure amount to approximately US$6.75 billion. This includes the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, designed to manage 4.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually by 2030, with plans to expand to 16.9 million TEUs by 2047.

Other significant projects are Gemadept–Terminal Link Cai Mep Port and My Xuan 6 Port, alongside Swift Logistics, which aims to enhance digital commerce delivery services. Urban development projects, led by the International University Urban Area and Lotte Eco Smart City Thu Thiem, total around US$8.9 billion, creating new residential, commercial, and educational hubs.

Boosting Manufacturing and Supply Chain Resilience

The remaining approved projects are dedicated to high-tech manufacturing and industrial park development. These include facilities for energy-efficient glass, advanced electrical cables, specialised metal products, thermoelectric semiconductor materials, and automation equipment.

Such investments are poised to significantly expand Ho Chi Minh City's manufacturing output and reinforce its position within regional electronics and industrial equipment supply chains. This strategic influx of capital aims to bolster Vietnam's industrial base and diversify its economic landscape.
