Singapore Digital Economy Hits S$144.1 Billion, Tech Workforce Grows
Singapore's digital economy expanded to 19.3% of GDP in 2025, with tech employment rising 3.8% to 222,200, an IMDA report shows.

Digital Economy Expansion
Singapore’s digital economy reached S$144.1 billion in 2025, according to the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in its Singapore Digital Economy Report 2026, released on Monday (Oct 5). This marks an increase from S$136.5 billion in 2024.
The digital economy, encompassing the information and communications sector and broader digitalisation efforts, contributed 19.3 per cent to Singapore's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025, up from 18.8 per cent the previous year. Overall, the digital economy grew 5.6 per cent year-on-year, outpacing the 3.1 per cent growth in nominal GDP.
Tech Workforce Dynamics
The Republic’s tech workforce expanded by 3.8 per cent to 222,200 professionals in 2025, IMDA reported. This growth was largely driven by increasing demand for tech talent in non-tech sectors. Tech employment in industries outside the information and communications sector, such as finance and manufacturing, rose 5.3 per cent year-on-year to 130,900, from 124,400 in 2024.
Concurrently, the number of tech professionals within traditional tech sectors saw a 1.8 per cent increase, reaching 91,300 from 89,600 the prior year. Tech professionals now account for 5.4 per cent of Singapore's total employment.
Wages and Sector Contributions
The median monthly wage for tech jobs stood at S$8,000 in 2025, a slight rise from S$7,950 in 2024. This figure is significantly higher than the overall resident median monthly wage of S$5,000, IMDA noted. Digitalisation initiatives across non-tech sectors contributed S$97 billion in nominal value-added in 2025, a 3.6 per cent increase from S$93.6 billion in 2024.
Finance and insurance led this contribution with S$39.1 billion, followed by wholesale trade, which recorded S$29.3 billion. The information and communications sector itself saw its nominal value-added climb 6.1 per cent to S$47.1 billion in 2025, from S$42.8 billion.
The sustained expansion of Singapore's digital economy and tech workforce signals ongoing opportunities and challenges for businesses. Companies operating in the Republic, particularly those in finance, manufacturing, and wholesale trade, will need to continue investing in digital transformation and securing skilled tech talent.
IMDA's plan to upskill 40,000 tech professionals over the next three years, focusing on advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills like agentic AI deployment, indicates a strategic push to meet future demand. The competitive median tech wage of S$8,000 also underscores the intense talent market in the sector.
