Forum Focuses on AI Integration

Singapore hosted the AIMCONNECT 2026 forum on 11 October at Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, bringing together more than 180 organisations to discuss the future of automotive financing. The event, organised by X Star Technology and Aimotion, explored how artificial intelligence (AI), connected systems, and cross-industry cooperation could transform vehicle lending and mobility services.

Participants included over 100 automotive companies, more than 60 financial institutions like Deutsche Bank and BMW Group Financial Services, and over 20 technology providers. The forum addressed the increasing digitalisation of the automotive sector, which demands a smoother, clearer financing process for customers.

Building Trust in Autonomous AI Systems

A central theme at AIMCONNECT 2026 was the importance of trust and governance as AI takes on greater responsibilities in financing. Shawn Yang, Chief Executive Officer of X Star Technology, stated in his keynote that intelligent engagement, closer industry links, and built-in trust are priorities for a connected automotive ecosystem.

He emphasised that human oversight and robust governance are essential for widespread AI adoption. Yang noted that a single flawed AI decision in auto finance risks customer harm and regulatory non-compliance, arguing that trust must be engineered into AI systems from their inception.

Technology Demonstrations and Frameworks

The forum featured live technology showcases from companies such as X Star Technology (Xport and AI capabilities), Aimotion, MStar, MK.X, and AI Wingman. These demonstrations illustrated AI applications across dealership operations, financing, marketing, mobility, and customer engagement.

Michael Jia, Chief Technology Officer of X Star Technology, presented the company’s Harness framework, which aims to govern autonomous systems. This framework incorporates human collaboration and intervention, defines boundaries and escalation protocols for AI agents, and ensures data traceability and compliance, reconciling operational capability with accountability.

Why it matters

The discussions highlighted that while richer data can improve credit assessments, its responsible use and transparent explanation to customers are crucial. Matthew Duncan, a panelist, observed that customers expect seamless digital financing experiences, similar to other daily services.

Meeting these expectations while maintaining sound risk management requires enhanced collaboration among dealers, financial institutions, and technology providers, supported by effective data sharing.

For Asian lenders and automotive businesses, this implies a pressing need to invest in integrated digital platforms and clear AI governance models to streamline vehicle purchasing and financing, potentially reducing operational friction and improving customer acquisition across regional markets.
