Sea Explores Singapore Exchange IPO for Monee Financial Unit
NYSE-listed Sea's CEO, Forrest Li, revealed the potential listing for its payments and lending arm, suggesting it could accelerate Monee's growth.

Sea Considers Monee Listing on SGX
Singapore-headquartered technology firm Sea is evaluating an initial public offering (IPO) for its financial services division, Monee, with the Singapore Exchange (SGX) identified as a potential venue. Sea's Chief Executive Officer, Forrest Li, disclosed the company "may ring the bell again" in an internal memo to employees on 20 October.
This announcement coincided with the ninth anniversary of Sea's own IPO. Li stated that going public could equip Monee with the necessary resources and operational freedom to expand its services more rapidly.
Monee's Role in Sea's Ecosystem
Monee currently manages the payment processing and loan offerings integrated into Sea's extensive digital ecosystem. This includes its prominent e-commerce platform, Shopee, and its gaming subsidiary, Garena. As the NYSE-listed parent company assesses options for Monee's public debut, the SGX is being considered as a local listing choice.
The Singapore bourse has also indicated that a dual listing arrangement could be among the options available to Sea for its financial arm.
Strategic Rationale for Public Offering
The potential IPO for Monee aims to unlock greater value and provide the financial services unit with direct access to capital markets. CEO Li's comments highlight the strategic objective of enabling Monee to accelerate its expansion and innovation beyond its current operational scope.
A public listing could enhance Monee's visibility and attract a dedicated investor base focused on the rapidly growing fintech sector across Southeast Asia.
A successful listing of Monee on the SGX would significantly boost Singapore's standing as a preferred hub for technology and financial services IPOs in Asia. It would introduce a major regional fintech entity to the local market, potentially drawing substantial liquidity and investor interest.
For investors, this offers a new opportunity to gain exposure to Southeast Asia's expanding digital payments and lending markets. Sea could utilise the raised capital to further its regional growth ambitions, aligning with Li's vision for faster expansion.
