Plaud doubles Singapore AI investment to US$20 million
The US wearable AI firm has expanded its Marina Bay Financial Centre headquarters and local engineering team, targeting 12 regional markets for multilingual conversation tools.

Increased Investment and Regional Hub
San Francisco-based Plaud has committed at least US$20 million to its Singapore operations. This investment doubles an earlier US$10 million commitment made by the company this year.
Plaud has also opened a 15,000 square foot Asia Pacific (APAC) headquarters at Marina Bay Financial Centre, bringing together its engineering, product, customer success, operations, marketing, and business teams.
The expansion supports the development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed for conversations across multiple languages, accents, and colloquial speech patterns.
Rapid Team Growth and Product Development
Plaud’s Singapore team has grown significantly, increasing from 10 to approximately 100 employees in nine months. The company stated it reached its original end-2026 hiring target three months ahead of schedule. Singapore now serves as Plaud’s operational base for 12 APAC markets, excluding Japan and mainland China.
These markets include Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Singapore office also undertakes product development, building multilingual and code-switching capabilities directly into Plaud’s core AI products.
Driving Multilingual AI Innovation
Plaud specialises in AI wearable devices that record conversations, then convert them into transcripts, notes, and summaries. Nathan Xu, Plaud’s chief executive officer and co-founder, noted that Asia represents a complex environment for AI due to its linguistic diversity, making Singapore an ideal location for development.
Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam also highlighted Singapore’s multilingual environment, strong AI talent, and market connectivity as advantages. Plaud is actively hiring for various roles, including AI engineers, data scientists, and product marketing managers, to support this growth.
Plaud reports over 2.5 million users globally, with its annual recurring revenue (ARR) reaching US$100 million from US$1 million within two years of its 2023 launch. This substantial investment and expansion by Plaud underscores Singapore's growing appeal as a strategic hub for advanced AI research and development.
Companies targeting the diverse linguistic needs of Asian markets, such as those in Southeast Asia or India, may increasingly look to Singapore for its specialised talent pool and supportive ecosystem for developing sophisticated, context-aware AI solutions.
