Indian Equities Flat on Oil Concerns; ICICI Securities Recommends Futures
India's Nifty 50 and Sensex closed Tuesday mostly unchanged, as Brent crude oil traded near $116 per barrel. ICICI Securities offered futures recommendations for CDSL, Zydus Lifesciences, and Sun Pharma.

Indian Markets Conclude Flat
Indian equity benchmarks, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, concluded Tuesday's trading session largely flat, with minimal movement. The Nifty 50 saw a marginal dip of 0.02% to settle at 22,749.75, while the Sensex eased 0.01% to 73,598.67. This subdued performance came amid heightened investor caution, driven by elevated crude oil prices.
Brent crude was trading near $116 per barrel, marking a six-month high, as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continued to weigh on market sentiment. Investors are also awaiting the US Federal Reserve's policy decision due later this week.
Analyst Outlook and Key Levels
Jay Thakkar, Vice President and Head of Derivatives and Quantitative Research at ICICI Securities, indicated that Indian markets are likely to remain range-bound in the near term. He identified the Nifty 50's immediate trading corridor between 22,000 and 23,000, with a decisive move outside this range expected to signal its next direction.
The India VIX, a volatility index, declined nearly 5%, suggesting that overall market volatility remained contained, with Thakkar expecting it to trade between 15 and 20. He also noted that the Bank Nifty had underperformed the Nifty 50 recently, setting its key support at 53,000 and resistance at 56,000.
Specific Futures Recommendations
Within this range-bound environment, Jay Thakkar of ICICI Securities provided specific recommendations for futures contracts. For Central Depository Services Ltd (CDSL), he advised buying futures at ₹1,210–₹1,230, targeting ₹1,300–₹1,350 with a stop-loss below ₹1,150.
Zydus Lifesciences futures were suggested for entry at ₹1,170–₹1,180, aiming for ₹1,250–₹1,300 and a stop-loss below ₹1,130. Finally, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries futures were recommended for purchase at ₹1,760–₹1,770, with targets of ₹1,840–₹1,880 and a stop-loss below ₹1,730.
For investors tracking Indian equities, Jay Thakkar's analysis from ICICI Securities suggests a market awaiting clearer direction, influenced by global oil prices and upcoming central bank decisions.
The specific futures recommendations offer defined entry and exit points for short-term trades, particularly in CDSL, Zydus Lifesciences, and Sun Pharma, based on technical and options data analysis.
The expectation of private sector banks outperforming public sector banks also points to potential sector-specific opportunities within the financial segment, warranting closer scrutiny by fund managers and proprietary traders in the coming sessions.
