India Bullion Prices Slide as Fed Rate Watch Intensifies
Gold and silver markets in India saw sharp declines on Friday, with 24K gold falling 0.61% to ₹1,42,750 per 10 grams, as global prices dipped ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting next week.

Indian Market Declines
Gold and silver prices in India experienced a notable decline on Friday, extending a recent downward trend. Retail rates for 24-karat gold fell by 0.61% to ₹1,42,750 per 10 grams, according to domestic market data from 23 October. Silver also saw a significant drop, with prices for 999 purity silver declining by 1.93% to ₹1,96,510 per kilogram.
These figures reflect movements since 22 October. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for domestic delivery traded 0.66% lower at ₹1,42,680 per 10 grams, while silver futures eased by 1.99% to ₹1,96,390 per kilogram around 9:13 am on Friday.
International Price Slump
Internationally, spot gold prices slid to their lowest level in over two weeks on late Thursday, falling 2.2% to $4,051.55 per ounce by 11:44 AM ET. US gold futures for December delivery also decreased, trading 2% lower at $4,066.20 per ounce. This global decline was influenced by a rally in oil prices, which heightened concerns about inflation.
Investors are now closely monitoring the upcoming policy decision from the US Federal Reserve, due next week, as it is expected to provide further direction for the precious metals market.
Federal Reserve Policy Watch
The US Federal Reserve's policy meeting, scheduled for October 27–28, is a key focus for bullion investors. Decisions from the Fed are critical because interest rates directly influence the strength of the US dollar and bond yields.
Higher interest rates and rising bond yields typically make non-yielding assets such as gold less attractive to investors, as the metal does not generate regular income. Any indications regarding the future trajectory of interest rates from the upcoming meeting will therefore significantly affect global gold and silver valuations.
Across major Indian cities on 23 October, retail prices for 24-karat gold varied slightly: New Delhi recorded ₹142,250 per 10 grams, Mumbai ₹142,320, and Chennai ₹142,740. Similarly, 999 fine silver prices showed minor differences, with New Delhi at ₹195,810 per kilogram, Mumbai at ₹195,940, and Chennai at ₹196,510.
For Asian investors and traders, particularly those in India, these domestic price movements highlight the direct impact of global monetary policy shifts. The upcoming Federal Reserve announcement will likely dictate the short-term sentiment for bullion, influencing local demand and investment flows in the region.
