InvestHK leads green tech mission to UK, boosting HK investment hub
Hong Kong's foreign investment agency, InvestHK, recently took 25 green technology firms from the city and mainland China to the UK, aiming to boost sustainable finance and innovation flows.

Hong Kong's Green Ambition
Hong Kong is intensifying its efforts to become a global hub for green technology investment and innovation. The city's foreign investment agency, InvestHK, recently completed its inaugural new energy mission to the United Kingdom in June 2026.
This delegation included representatives from 25 green technology companies based in Hong Kong and mainland China, partnering with the UK's Department of Business and Trade.
Hong Kong aims to halve its carbon emissions from 2005 levels by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2050, aligning with China's broader goals to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
Facilitating Two-Way Flows
The UK visit allowed the participating companies to study Britain's energy transition initiatives, engage with government agencies and university experts, and meet potential investment partners. According to King Leung, InvestHK’s global head of financial services, financial technology, and sustainability, the agency's role extends beyond introductions.
InvestHK facilitates two-way business flows, assisting foreign companies entering Hong Kong and mainland China markets, while also supporting Hong Kong and mainland firms in their international expansion. Hong Kong’s Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Diane Wong Shuk-han, states the city can serve as a “superconnector” for green and low-carbon technologies.
Jana Energy's Strategic Expansion
Shenzhen-headquartered Jana Energy Technology, a green technology start-up founded in April 2022, exemplifies the companies leveraging Hong Kong’s platform. Jana Energy specialises in materials for sodium-ion batteries, seen as a lower-cost alternative to lithium-ion technology.
Founder, chairman, and chief scientist Cao Yuliang states the company operates the world’s largest production line for polyanionic cathode materials, holding over 60 per cent of that market segment. Jana Energy supplies Chinese battery manufacturers such as Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) and Eve Energy, and carmaker BYD. To drive international growth, the company established its overseas base at Hong Kong Science Park in 2024.
Gateway for Green Investment
Cao Yuliang describes Hong Kong as an ideal springboard, attracting talent, scientific research, application information, and capital. While mainland companies currently constitute over 95 per cent of Jana Energy’s business, the firm aims for international clients to contribute up to 30 per cent of its revenue by 2036.
Hong Kong's proactive stance, through InvestHK's initiatives, positions the city as a critical conduit for green technology investment and expansion, particularly for mainland Chinese firms seeking global reach.
This strategy offers a clear pathway for investors to engage with emerging green industries and for companies like Jana Energy Technology to access international markets and capital via Hong Kong's established financial infrastructure.
