X Replaces Creator Payouts with Original Content Rewards Programme
X (formerly Twitter) is replacing its Creator Revenue Sharing Programme with a new Original Content Rewards Programme. This global shift prioritises unique posts and expertise, changing how digital creators monetise their work worldwide, including in Asia.

New Payout Structure Emphasises Originality
X announced a new Original Content Rewards Programme on August 7. This initiative replaces its Creator Revenue Sharing Programme. The platform now prioritises unique posts, reporting, expertise, and commentary. X stated the change aims to reward creators who bring original ideas and insights to the platform.
The company seeks content that adds new value, rather than merely resharing existing material. This move reflects X's evolving strategy for content monetisation.
Transition and Eligibility Details
Starting September 8, eligible creators can earn payouts based on impressions of their original content. Existing revenue-sharing members will continue earning under the old scheme until September 7. New applications for the former revenue-sharing programme are now closed. X will issue payouts every two weeks.
The first payment for existing members who enrol in the new programme on or after September 8 is scheduled for September 25, 2026. Only unique impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline feed, with at least 50 per cent of the post visible, will qualify. Copied or re-uploaded content will not be eligible for rewards.
This shift demands that Asian digital content creators adapt their monetisation strategies. The enhanced focus on original content could stimulate innovation within the region’s digital media landscape. Platforms across Asia may observe and respond to X’s move by re-evaluating their own creator incentive programmes.
This change specifically values local expertise and unique regional insights. Businesses engaging with influencers on X in Asia will need to adjust their content strategies to align with the new reward structure, ensuring their campaigns feature genuinely original material.
