SGX Securities Trading Value Climbs 27% in September, Derivatives Rebound
Singapore Exchange's daily average securities value reached S$1.9 billion in September, marking a 27% year-on-year increase. Derivatives trading volumes also saw a monthly rebound.

Securities Market Performance
The Singapore Exchange (SGX) reported a 27% year-on-year increase in its securities daily average value (SDAV) for September, reaching S$1.9 billion. This figure, however, represented an 11% month-on-month dip from August's record highs. Total securities market turnover for the month likewise grew 27% year-on-year to S$42.2 billion across 22 trading days.
The bourse operator noted a 2.5% decline from August's S$43.3 billion total. This performance comes as the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) consolidated from its August record rally.
Derivatives Market Rebound
Overall derivatives activity on SGX demonstrated a month-on-month rebound. Total traded volume for derivatives increased 10% from August, reaching 29.8 million contracts, though it was down 2% year-on-year. Derivatives daily average volume (DAV) also rose 7% month-on-month to 1.40 million contracts, remaining flat compared to the previous year.
Foreign exchange (FX) derivatives showed particularly strong growth, with total traded volume surging 53% year-on-year to 9.6 million contracts. Chinese renminbi, Indian rupee, and Korean won contracts were key drivers of this expansion.
Index and Specific Futures
The Straits Times Index (STI) closed September at 5,675.88 points, easing 1% month-on-month after its record rally in August. Despite the monthly consolidation, the STI recorded a substantial 32% gain year-on-year. In specific derivatives, SGX STI Futures saw their volume more than double month-on-month to 75,477 contracts.
SGX USD/CNH FX Futures jumped 47% year-on-year to 4.87 million contracts, while SGX INR/USD FX Futures climbed 59% to 3.89 million contracts. SGX KRW/USD FX Futures (Mini) volume more than doubled, rising 103% year-on-year to 732,267 contracts.
The mixed performance across SGX's offerings suggests a market taking a breather after August's highs, particularly in equities. The strong year-on-year growth in securities value and the significant rebound in FX derivatives volumes highlight continued interest in Singapore's market infrastructure.
Investors should monitor the sustained momentum in FX and commodity derivatives, such as the 69% year-on-year surge in SICOM rubber derivatives volume to 455,327 contracts. SGX shares reacted positively to the announcement, rising 0.4% to close at S$20.73 on Monday, indicating market confidence in the bourse operator's diversified revenue streams.
