A Naver Cloud-led consortium secured a South Korean government contract to develop a cybersecurity artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model. The Ministry of Science and ICT awarded the project, providing Nvidia B200 graphics processing units (GPUs).
Naver Cloud Secures Government AI Contract
Naver Cloud Corp. now leads a consortium chosen for a South Korean government project. This initiative will develop an artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model for cybersecurity. The Ministry of Science and ICT made the selection. Naver Cloud, the internet giant Naver Corp.'s cloud and AI division, won against a rival group. SK Telecom Co. led the competing consortium.
The Ministry cited Naver's strong industry-academia-research partnership, technological capabilities, and development strategy.
Consortium Details and Hardware Support
The winning Naver Cloud consortium includes 32 companies and institutions. Notable members are LG CNS Co. and LG Uplus Corp. Several major domestic universities and research organisations also participate. The Ministry of Science and ICT will provide substantial hardware support. This includes up to 256 Nvidia B200 graphics processing units (GPUs).
These GPUs will be supplied over the next 10 months. The Ministry planned to finalise the contract that month, initiating full development.
Sovereign AI for National Security
This project aims to create a sovereign cybersecurity AI model. It will specifically address South Korea's unique security environment. The initiative responds to increasing cyber risks. These risks stem from rapidly evolving AI technologies. Developing national AI capabilities reduces reliance on foreign systems for critical infrastructure protection.
