New Payment Option for Tourists

International visitors to Sri Lanka can now complete QR payments using Wise. Customers from seven specific markets are eligible for this service. These markets include the United Kingdom, various European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Brazil. This new capability allows these Wise users to scan and pay at any merchant supporting LankaQR. The initiative expands payment convenience for a broad base of global travellers.

LankaQR Network and Partnership

LankaQR functions as Sri Lanka's official national interoperable QR payment network. It provides a unified system connecting numerous participating financial institutions and local merchants. LankaPay operates this extensive network, ensuring seamless transactions. The service's activation stems from LankaPay's established collaboration with Alipay+. This partnership delivers another accessible digital payment channel for international visitors across the island.

Boost for Sri Lanka Tourism

Channa de Silva, LankaPay's Chief Executive Officer, confirmed the rollout via a public announcement. He highlighted the service's expected positive impact. Mr de Silva stated it would significantly strengthen the existing partnership between LankaPay and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. This collaboration actively promotes Sri Lanka Tourism. Enhanced payment options aim to support the country's efforts to attract and serve more international guests.
