Indian Equities Decline on Oil, Outflows; HDFC Securities Recommends Two Stocks

India's Nifty 50 fell 0.44% to 22,622.70 and the Sensex dropped 0.34% to 72,781.89 on Wednesday, 14 October, as market sentiment cooled after Tuesday's rally.

Indian Markets Retreat Amid Rising Oil Prices

Indian equity benchmarks closed lower on Wednesday, 14 October, reversing some of the previous session's gains. The Nifty 50 index declined by 0.44% to settle at 22,622.70, while the Sensex edged down 0.34% to 72,781.89. This market downturn was primarily attributed to an increase in global oil prices and persistent outflows from foreign investors.

The decline followed a strong rebound on Tuesday, when both indices had gained approximately 1.6%, largely driven by strong performance in IT stocks after HCLTech reported better-than-expected quarterly profits.

Nifty 50 Faces Key Resistance Levels

Technical analysis suggests the Nifty 50 index is currently positioned near a critical resistance zone between 22,700 and 22,800. A decisive break above 22,800 would be necessary to negate the prevailing bearish setup, which has seen lower tops and bottoms forming on the daily chart for the fifth consecutive session.

Should the index fail to overcome this resistance, immediate support is anticipated around the 22,300 level. Broader market sentiment also weakened, with small-cap and mid-cap indices recording declines of 0.3% and 0.1% respectively.

HDFC Securities Recommends Sagility and Rain Industries

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, issued short-term "buy" recommendations for two specific stocks. He advised buying Sagility at ₹45.60, setting a target price of ₹49.50 and a stop-loss at ₹43.50. For Rain Industries, the recommendation was to buy at ₹236, with a target of ₹255 and a stop-loss at ₹223.

Both trades are suggested for an investment horizon of two to three weeks, indicating a short-term trading strategy based on technical indicators.

Technical Signals for Recommended Stocks

The recommendations for Sagility and Rain Industries are underpinned by specific technical patterns. Sagility's stock price experienced a significant bounce on Wednesday, positioning it to potentially break above a crucial down-sloping trend line at ₹46. This move was accompanied by expanding trading volumes and positive signals from the daily Relative Strength Index (RSI).

Rain Industries, after a period of consolidation, has shown a decisive breakout this week, marked by consistent higher lows, increased volume, and positive indications from both daily and weekly RSI, suggesting a bullish trend.
