Indian Gold, Silver Prices Rise After US Fed Rate Hike
Retail 24K gold in India reached ₹1,53,600 per 10 grams today, following a 25 basis point interest rate increase by the US Federal Reserve, with silver gaining 85.49% over the past year.

US Fed Rate Hike Impacts Bullion
Precious metals experienced volatility today, 17 September 2026, after the US Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points. This move positioned the target range between 3.75% and 4%. Global bullion prices recovered on Thursday, following a sharp decline in the preceding session.
Spot gold saw an increase of over 1%, reaching approximately US$4,310 per ounce, while silver also recorded gains, according to Reuters.
Indian Retail Rates Today
In India, domestic retail prices for gold and silver reflected these movements. On Thursday, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,53,600 per 10 grams, according to Bullions.co.in. The same source reported 22-carat gold at ₹1,40,800 per 10 grams. Fine silver (999 purity) was valued at ₹2,35,140 per kilogramme.
These figures represent the bullion rates before additional charges like jewellery-making fees and taxes are applied by retailers.
Significant Annual Gains for Metals
Both gold and silver have delivered substantial returns over the past year, despite recent daily fluctuations. Bullions.co.in data shows 24K gold prices have climbed 39.22% since last year. Silver has seen an even more pronounced increase, gaining 85.49% over the same period. A year ago, 24K gold was approximately ₹1,10,350 per 10 grams, while silver stood at around ₹1,26,850 per kilogramme.
The robust annual performance of precious metals means that an investment of ₹1 lakh in gold a year ago would now be worth roughly ₹1.39 lakh, based on bullion rates. A similar investment in silver would have yielded approximately ₹1.85 lakh over the same timeframe, before considering transaction costs and taxes.
Indian domestic prices are influenced by global bullion trends, the rupee-dollar exchange rate, and local market dynamics, shaping returns for investors.
