Futu Securities Leads Hong Kong Digital Firms' Branch Push
Online brokerages and digital banks are opening physical branches in Hong Kong, with Futu Securities International establishing a 42,000 square foot global headquarters in Pacific Place.

Online Firms Shift to Physical Branches
Digital financial service providers in Hong Kong, including online brokerages and digital banks, are increasingly establishing physical outlets. This marks a strategic shift from their previous "zero-branch" operating models. The move follows a significant decline in shop rents across prime city locations.
Analysts view this as a strategy to enhance brand presence and service quality. The aim is to capture a larger share of the market, according to market observers.
Futu Securities Opens New Global HQ
Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) recently opened a new global headquarters at Pacific Place in Admiralty. This new office spans approximately 42,000 square feet. It will house a private wealth centre, offering professional advisory services. Tailored asset management solutions will be available for high-net-worth and institutional clients. Futu Securities previously operated 13 physical service locations across Hong Kong, the company stated.
Limited Impact on Retail Property Market
Despite the expansion by financial firms, analysts suggest the impact on Hong Kong’s retail property market will remain limited. While these firms are occupying commercial spaces, the overall volume of new demand is not substantial enough. It is unlikely to significantly boost the city's shop rents broadly.
The trend is seen more as a targeted business strategy for the financial sector rather than a widespread property market driver.
The So-What for Hong Kong Retail Property
For retail property investors in Hong Kong, this trend indicates that a recovery in rents will not be driven by demand from digital financial firms alone. While some prime locations may see specific leases, the broader market will require other catalysts. This move by financial firms primarily reflects their strategic focus on deepening client relationships. It does not signal a significant shift in overall retail space absorption or pricing power for landlords.
