Franklin Templeton Reshuffles Leadership, Boosts Asia Focus
Franklin Templeton appointed Rene Buehlmann as Asia Pacific Head and Elizabeth Hogbin as Global Product Head. The asset manager also repositioned its global client group, prioritising Asian markets and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Key Leadership Appointments
Franklin Templeton appointed Rene Buehlmann as its new Head of Asia Pacific. He will commence his role on 21 September 2026, splitting his time between Hong Kong and Singapore. Buehlmann previously served as Global CEO of Aberdeen Investments. He also spent nearly three decades at UBS, including leading UBS Asset Management in APAC.
Elizabeth Hogbin will join as Global Product Head on 30 September. She will direct global product strategy, development, positioning, and commercialisation across various asset classes and investment vehicles. Hogbin joins from T. Rowe Price, where she led their global product organisation.
Global Client Group Repositioned
These appointments are part of a broader leadership reshuffle at Franklin Templeton. The firm also repositioned its Global Client Group. Patrick O’Connor moved from Head of Global ETFs to Vice Chairman of this group. O’Connor will advise Co-President and Chief Commercial Officer Daniel Gamba on investment solutions and global expansion strategy.
His initial focus includes expanding the firm’s exchange-traded fund (ETF) capabilities. This expansion targets key Asian markets: Japan, Greater China, Korea, Taiwan, and India. O'Connor previously helped build Franklin Templeton’s ETF business to over US$75 billion in assets.
Strategic Focus and Inflows
Franklin Templeton stated these organisational changes centre around key areas. These include ETFs, global product management, Asia Pacific, and institutional distribution. The firm's strategic emphasis clearly demonstrates a push into Asian markets. Franklin Templeton reported US$63.4 billion in net inflows for its fiscal year to date.
These inflows came from wealth and institutional clients across various asset classes and regions. This figure demonstrates continued client interest in the firm's offerings.
This leadership reorganisation and client group focus demonstrates Franklin Templeton's strategic intent for Asian markets. The specific targeting of Japan, Greater China, Korea, Taiwan, and India for ETF growth suggests increased competition for local asset managers. Investors in these regions can expect more diverse ETF product offerings from the firm.
This strategic shift could drive new capital flows into these Asian markets. It also demonstrates a commitment to deepening institutional relationships across the region.
