DBS Q3 Profit Outlook

Singapore's DBS Group is expected to report a 3.2% year-on-year (YoY) decrease in net profit for the third quarter (Q3), reaching $2.86 billion, according to analysis from CGSI. This forecast also represents a 7.1% sequential decline from the second quarter of 2026.

The anticipated reduction in earnings for the financial institution is primarily driven by a projected fall in net interest income and an increase in provisions.

Interest Income Pressures

CGSI projects DBS's net interest income to decline by 2.4% YoY to $3.49 billion in Q3. This is largely due to a narrowing net interest margin (NIM), which measures the difference between interest earned on loans and paid on deposits. The NIM is expected to contract to 1.86% from 1.96% recorded a year earlier.

However, the brokerage anticipates a 1.5% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth in loans for Q3, which may partially temper the impact of the shrinking NIM.

Non-Interest Revenue Gains

Conversely, non-interest income for DBS is forecast to increase by 2.9% YoY, reaching $2.42 billion, CGSI stated. This growth is significantly bolstered by wealth management fees, which are expected to rise by 7.4% to $855 million as the bank continues to attract new client funds.

Despite this positive trend, income from customer treasury transactions and market trading is projected to fall by 11.9% and 14.7% respectively, from their record levels in the previous quarter.

Full-Year Projections and Market Focus

Looking ahead, CGSI forecasts DBS's full-year net profit to be $11.45 billion in 2026, with a further increase to $12.27 billion in 2027. For investors and market participants, these projections highlight the ongoing challenges from interest rate movements affecting core lending profitability, balanced by the resilience of the bank's wealth management segment.

Monitoring the trajectory of interest rates and regional wealth inflows will be key to understanding DBS's performance in the coming quarters.
