Inaugural Awards Ceremony

Bursa Malaysia announced the winners of its inaugural Investor Relations (IR) Awards 2026 on 4 September in Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony recognised 32 companies across eight major categories, aiming to elevate market standards and corporate transparency within Malaysia's investment ecosystem.

Organised by Bursa Malaysia, the awards programme seeks to celebrate excellence among publicly listed companies, their executive leaders, and dedicated investor relations teams for their engagement with the global investment community.

Leadership Views on Transparency

Dato’ Fad’l Mohamed, CEO of Bursa Malaysia, stated that trust is a crucial asset for any company. He noted that alongside strong business performance, a company's capacity to clearly articulate its strategy and explain its results helps investors understand its long-term value. YBhg.

Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican, Treasury secretary general at the Ministry of Finance, delivered a keynote address, explaining that effective investor relations practices are essential for improving the quality, global competitiveness, and resilience of Malaysia’s listed companies.

Market-Led Selection Process

The award recipients were chosen through a comprehensive polling process involving analysts and fund managers who cover Malaysian equities. This market-led approach sought to reflect sentiment from both sell-side and buy-side participants. Bursa Malaysia also conducted due diligence reviews, supported by independent verification, to confirm the integrity of the votes.

The awards acknowledged both large-cap and mid/small-cap enterprises across diverse sectors, including Construction, Financial Services, Healthcare, and Technology.

Why it matters

This initiative aims to cultivate a more competitive and open capital market. Investors can expect improved clarity from Malaysian listed companies, allowing for more informed decisions on specific equities. This could assist Bursa Malaysia in its goal of attracting greater foreign and domestic capital into the market, a focus for the exchange through 2027.

The programme sets new benchmarks for corporate engagement, which may encourage other Asian exchanges to consider similar initiatives for their own listed companies.
