Deal for Cloud-Native Switching

ACI Worldwide plans to acquire Cranium Ventures, a firm established in the UK in 2018 with significant operations in Singapore and Malaysia. The acquisition focuses on Cranium Ventures’ SYNAP technology, a microservices-based card switching framework. This system operates across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

ACI will integrate SYNAP into its ACI Connetic for Cards platform, enhancing its planned card switching capabilities. The transaction encompasses Cranium Ventures’ technology, intellectual property, and existing commercial relationships.

Strengthening Payment Infrastructure

Thomas Warsop, President and Chief Executive Officer of ACI Worldwide, stated that card processing remains a complex modernisation challenge in payments. He explained that financial institutions require intelligence throughout the payment lifecycle, which ACI Connetic aims to deliver. ACI launched Connetic for Cards in March 2026.

Warsop added that Cranium Ventures accelerates this work, reinforcing ACI's competitive standing in cloud-native switching and payment solutions. ACI's cloud-native payments platform combines account-to-account payments, card payments, and AI-powered fraud prevention.

Asia Impact and Integration

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Cranium Ventures’ co-founders, Ashraf Dimitri and Tony Horrell, will join ACI following the deal. ACI will continue supporting existing SYNAP customers after the acquisition closes. The transaction is subject to customary approvals and closing conditions, with completion anticipated in the third quarter of 2026.

This acquisition, involving a company with a significant presence in Singapore and Malaysia, demonstrates ongoing consolidation in Asia's fintech infrastructure. It will provide enhanced cloud-native card processing to Asian financial institutions leveraging ACI’s platform, potentially improving transaction efficiency and security.
