TRM Labs Strengthens APAC Policy Team

TRM Labs appointed Ziqing Ang as its Head of Policy for Asia-Pacific. She will lead the company’s regulatory engagement across the region. Her mandate includes addressing digital asset crime and emerging threats, working with regulators, policymakers, and law enforcement agencies. Ang will also engage private institutions on these critical issues.

This move follows TRM Labs' recent hiring of Claudia Hui, another former Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulator. Hui joined last month as Head of Compliance Advisory for APAC. These two senior appointments demonstrate TRM Labs’ broader expansion of its policy, compliance, and commercial presence across Asia.

Extensive Regulatory and Digital Asset Background

Ang brings extensive experience from both regulatory and private sectors. She spent over eight years at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Her work there focused on financial markets development and reserve management. During her MAS tenure, Ang supported Singapore’s capital markets initiatives.

She also managed fixed income portfolios and contributed research for the country’s official foreign reserves. Later, Ang joined digital asset bank Sygnum as Vice President of Business Development. In that role, she supported digital asset adoption among institutional and accredited investors.

Commercial Leadership and Industry Outlook

Most recently, Ang served as Chief Business Officer at Bright Point International Digital Assets. This firm is part of BPI Financial Group. At Bright Point, she led the development of its over-the-counter (OTC) brokerage. Her responsibilities included securing necessary licensing and building institutional infrastructure.

Ang stated that Asia-Pacific is at a critical juncture for regulating technology in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). She believes decisions made in the coming years will significantly shape the safety of the digital ecosystem. She also emphasised the importance of strong regulation and public-private sector partnerships.

Why it matters

TRM Labs’ strategic hires, including Ang, underscore the increasing focus on regulatory clarity within Asia's digital asset sector. This demonstrates growing complexity in regional digital asset governance and the need for specialised expertise.

For businesses operating in the digital asset space, this move suggests continued evolution in compliance requirements and heightened regulatory scrutiny. TRM Labs' expanded regional presence may offer institutions assistance in navigating these changes, particularly regarding digital asset crime prevention and compliance. This also highlights Singapore's role as a talent hub for digital asset regulation.
