Indian Equities Drop Fourth Week; RVNL, Tata Motors in Focus
Indian benchmark indices recorded their fourth consecutive weekly decline, pressured by global rate uncertainty and crude prices. Investors will watch several companies on Monday, 7 September, following recent business updates.

Market Weakness Persists
Indian equities concluded their fourth consecutive weekly decline. The Nifty 50 dropped 1.15%, closing at 23,897.70. The Sensex slipped 1.0%, ending at 76,515.43. Elevated crude oil prices, geopolitical tensions, and global interest rate outlook uncertainty weighed on sentiment. Persistent foreign investor selling also contributed to the market weakness through the week.
Infrastructure and Steel Updates
Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) secured a ₹903 crore Letter of Award on Friday. SJVN Thermal Private Limited issued the contract for work on Bihar's 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project, RVNL reported. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders received a ₹118 crore purchase order from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL).
This order covers an AI-based Comprehensive Infrasecure Project across five substations. JSW Steel reported a 3% year-on-year rise in August 2026 consolidated crude steel production. Output reached 24.65 lakh tonnes, the company stated.
Automotive, Pharma, and Real Estate
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles launched an open offer for Iveco Group shares at €14.1 each. This values the Italian automotive firm at approximately €3.82 billion, Tata Motors said. Lupin received United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) approval for its Modafinil Tablets USP in 100 mg and 200 mg strengths.
Real estate developer Brigade Enterprises launched Brigade Barcelona in Hyderabad’s Neopolis. The project holds over ₹2,700 crore revenue potential. Eicher Motors introduced the Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹2.29 lakh; bookings commenced on 4 September.
Lemon Tree Hotels added 145 rooms to its Bihar portfolio, following license agreements for two Bodhgaya properties. CIE Automotive India invested ₹120.76 crore in its wholly-owned subsidiary, CIE Hosur Limited, via a rights issue for 69.4 lakh equity shares.
India's market weakness shows global macro factors overriding local company news. Rising crude prices directly impact India's import bill and corporate margins. Global rate uncertainty affects foreign portfolio investment flows into Asian markets. Investors will watch for sustained foreign selling or a shift in commodity prices. These factors could continue to shape market direction beyond individual stock performance in the coming weeks.
