Indian Equities Face Flat Open; Prabhudas Lilladher Recommends Three Stocks
India's equity markets expect a subdued opening today, 31 August 2026. Renewed US-Iran military escalation drives a risk-off mood across Asian markets and lifts crude oil prices. Prabhudas Lilladher's Vaishali Parekh offers key Nifty levels and three intraday stock recommendations.

Market Outlook Subdued
Indian equity benchmarks show a cautious bias for today's trading, 31 August 2026. Prabhudas Lilladher's Vaishali Parekh projects a flat-to-negative opening for Dalal Street indices. The Gift Nifty live index trades around 24,200, slightly above Friday's Nifty 50 spot close of 24,175. However, it sits approximately 100 points below its previous close, showing a subdued start.
This sentiment stems from renewed US-Iran military escalation, raising global energy supply concerns and boosting crude oil prices. A broader risk-off tone affects Asian markets.
Nifty and Bank Nifty Levels
Parekh, Vice President – Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, observes the Nifty 50 index held near the 24,100 zone. It recovered in final hours, closing near 24,200 with a cautiously positive bias. Nifty 50 faces important resistance at 24,400; a decisive breach here would show further upward movement.
The 23,800 zone acts as crucial support, needing to hold to maintain the overall trend. Bank Nifty remains stagnant, consolidating between 58,000 and the 50-EMA (exponential moving average) zone at 57,200. A clear break on either side is necessary for a directional move.
Intraday Stock Picks
Bank Nifty requires a decisive breakthrough above the 58,500 resistance zone to establish conviction. Major support lies near the 100-period MA (moving average) at the 56,000 level; this must hold to maintain the trend. For intraday trading, Parekh recommends three specific stocks.
KPIT Technologies carries a buy recommendation at ₹610, with a target of ₹620 and a stop loss at ₹600. Sun Pharma Advanced Research suggests a buy at ₹205, targeting ₹220, with a stop loss at ₹198. Viyash Scientific is recommended for a buy at ₹267, targeting ₹285, with a stop loss at ₹257.
The broader risk-off sentiment in Asia, driven by US-Iran military escalation, affects investor confidence. Rising crude oil prices directly impact energy-importing Asian economies, raising production costs and inflation pressures. This environment could see capital flows shift towards perceived safe-haven assets.
Investors will watch for sustained breaches of key index levels in India, particularly Nifty 50's 24,400 resistance. Continued geopolitical tensions will dictate market direction and commodity price volatility across the region.
