UOB Sells Asset Management Arm to Allianz Global Investors for S$555 Million
UOB will divest its asset management division to Allianz Global Investors for S$555 million. The agreement also establishes a long-term distribution partnership, sharpening UOB's wealth advisory focus across Asia.

The Acquisition Details
Allianz Global Investors will acquire UOB Asset Management for S$555 million. This acquisition encompasses UOB Asset Management's operations across eight key Asian markets: Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The transaction is contingent on regulatory approvals and is expected to conclude in 2027. UOB Asset Management has operated as a part of the UOB Group for four decades, establishing a significant presence across these regional economies.
Financial Impact and Strategic Partnership
UOB anticipates a pre-tax gain of approximately S$330 million from the sale, excluding one-off transaction costs. The bank also projects an increase of about 14 basis points [0.14 percentage points] to its common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio [a key measure of a bank's capital strength]. The deal includes a long-term distribution agreement. Under this, UOB will collaborate with Allianz Global Investors to offer investment products to over 8 million customers in the region.
Rationale and Employee Transition
Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and CEO of UOB, stated the partnership sharpens UOB's focus on wealth advisory and distribution. He added that combining UOB's advisory capabilities with Allianz Global Investors' investment expertise enables the bank to meet evolving customer needs and support long-term wealth goals. All 500 UOB Asset Management employees will transition to Allianz Global Investors, which has committed to maintaining their employment. UOB Asset Management managed roughly S$42 billion in assets as of 31 December 2025.
The Asia Business Impact
This divestment allows UOB to streamline its operations, accelerate wealth management growth, and enhance shareholder value by leveraging its advisory strength. For Allianz Global Investors, the acquisition significantly expands its footprint and client reach across Southeast Asia. CEO Tobias Pross noted the deal combines UOB Asset Management's regional investment expertise with Allianz Global Investors' global platform. This provides a wider array of wealth management and retirement solutions to UOB's extensive customer base, demonstrating a strategic shift towards specialised partnerships within Asia's financial services sector.
